Happy, Healthy, and Engaged
The Orchard School strives to provide students with a Progressive education, which includes hands-on learning, collaboration between teachers and students, and fostering of active citizenship. This approach to a student-focused education sets us apart from other traditional private schools.
HAPPY
First and foremost, we focus on the emotional well-being of our students. It’s imperative that the curriculum provides daily opportunities for students to reflect, take brain breaks, and practice mindfulness..
HEALTHY
We’re investing $200,000 to upgrade our facilities to create the most healthy indoor environment possible for our students, faculty, and staff, including touchless faucets, toilets, urinals, hand sanitizers, and high-traffic door entries throughout the building.
ENGAGED
Out with the old in with the new! Three new natural playgrounds were built over the summer of 2020 and these updated spaces include amphitheaters that can be used as outdoor teaching spaces. Some of these spaces will have expanded WiFi coverage! Our 43-acre campus with woods, fields, a track, and multiple outdoor learning spaces will continue to be a central part of our progressive program which is developmentally appropriate and aligned with our curriculum.

Elementary School (grades 1-4)
The elementary school curriculum is organized into interdisciplinary units that enhance the children’s ability to connect school life and real life. This allows students to explore areas of study by using multiple learning approaches across academic disciplines. Children learn to express themselves through these modes of communication. Students are encouraged to move toward academic and personal independence and are provided the framework to develop mastery.
Middle School (grades 5-8)
Middle schoolers love Orchard because their individuality is honored, and the academics are challenging, yet fun, creating a love of learning that is fostered by teachers who know them well. Our small student-to-teacher ratio affords dedicated teachers the emotional space to create meaningful relationships, building an inclusive and accepting community. All this takes place in a warm, nurturing community where diversity is evident, recognized, and celebrated.
Early Childhood (Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten)
The Orchard School's nationally recognized Early Childhood program includes Preschool (3/4), Pre-Kindergarten (4/5) & Kindergarten (5/6). Each classroom has two highly-qualified lead teachers. Our Early Childhood grade-level teams also include specialist teachers for music, art (Kindergarten only), science, and Spanish. Our programs utilize spaces in and around our 43-acre wooded campus as both outdoor classrooms and unstructured play areas all year round. The emphasis on a nature-based approach to Early Childhood supports the curricular and social-emotional goals that we have for our students.
